Edo Men’s Group

The Edo Men's Support Group assists in reducing social isolation of Edo Men living in Wyndham. It gives them the opportunity to come together and develop social and support networks and engage in various activities. The group will focus on compassion and understanding of vital issues, offering fellowship, a meal and an opportunity to discuss issues affecting them.
This group aims to improve well-being and self-esteem, promote inclusiveness, increase independence and social mobility of participants.

The group provides healthy relationships and increases awareness about Australian culture, while providing opportunities for cross-cultural learning with empathy, kindness and open discussions. Other aims and objectives of this group include the development of information and referral pathways to other services as needed including, but not limited to, education, employment for Edo and other African Australian men while promoting healthy relationships

The Group aims to assist in reducing social isolation of Edo men and other African Australian men in Wyndham by providing the opportunity for men to come together and develop social and support networks and to engage in various activities. It aims to improve the mental health, well-being and self-esteem of Edo men by promoting inclusiveness and increasing independence and social mobility.

The group intends to promote healthy relationships and additionally hopes to increase awareness of Australian culture and provide opportunities for cross-cultural learning for all participants.
The project will have alternating activities at the Wyndham Cultural Centre building and outings bimonthly and utilise a range of community houses across Wyndham. During the first group, there will be an opportunity for participants to complete a survey which will include a variety of future options for upcoming activities and excursions as a way to ensure that future activities are relevant and meaningful to those attending.

Tea, coffee and lunch will be provided at each group meeting and all participants.

In addition to the above outcomes, the Edo Club of Australia Inc. believes the impact of the project beyond the end date include participants having improved connections to their community, participants having improved participation in civic life, and participants having an increased understanding of other cultures and identities. Participants forming a leadership group to mentor other men and build their capacity internally and externally.
